Oak Pointe Church Novi
Transforming into a Daily Community Destination
Novi, Michigan
When the leadership at Oak Pointe Church Novi sought to extend their impact beyond Sunday services, they faced a common challenge for modern ministries: how to transform a traditional place of worship into an active, welcoming community hub seven days a week. Rather than embarking on a costly, sprawling addition, Oak Pointe partnered with MCD Architects to reimagine the potential hidden within their existing footprint.
Through strategic planning and intentional interior design, we helped Oak Pointe realize a bold vision: converting an underutilized lobby into The Pointe Café and creating Play Park, a colorful, four-story indoor playscape. Today, Oak Pointe isn't just a place for weekend services—it is a vibrant, daily gathering spot that serves, connects, and blesses the entire Novi community.
What This Transformation Includes
Strategic Lobby Reconfiguration: Transformed standard circulation space into a revenue-generating, community-focused café without expanding the building's outer footprint.
The Pointe Café Design: A beautifully modern, warmly lit coffee shop complete with artisan beverage service, flexible seating for remote work, and cozy gathering nooks.
Four-Story "Play Park" Playscape: A fully enclosed, climate-controlled, multi-level indoor playground designed for safe, year-round family activity.
Flexible Community Seating: Ample, durable, and adaptable furniture arrangements accommodating everything from large playdates to quiet 1-on-1 conversations.
Seamless Sightlines & Flow: Thoughtful architectural layout ensuring parents can relax in the café while keeping a clear line of sight on the play zone.
Play Park: A Safe Haven for Families
Michigan winters can isolate young families searching for safe, indoor recreation. Play Park answers that need with a vibrant, custom-designed four-story indoor structure. Built with high-visibility safety mesh, easy-clean materials, and adjacent soft seating for parents, it provides a bright, joy-filled sanctuary for kids to play and parents to connect.
The Pointe Café: A Welcoming Front Door
Designed with modern aesthetics, warm wood finishes, and glare-reducing lighting, The Pointe Café bridges the gap between church and community. It serves as a comfortable, low-pressure environment for local residents to work remotely, meet friends, or grab a craft beverage—effectively making the church a pillar of local daily life.
