Romulus Public Library
Creating a More Functional and Future-Ready Library
Romulus, Michigan
The Romulus Public Library partnered with MCD Architects to reimagine its existing facility through a space utilization study and master plan. The study revealed untapped potential within the library, allowing for strategic reorganization to enhance functionality without requiring a full-scale expansion.
The first phase of the project focused on optimizing the library’s layout, including the expansion of the program room, a new centrally located help desk for improved accessibility, and an upgraded computer services area. These updates have created a more welcoming and efficient environment for both staff and patrons.
Looking ahead, the library’s master plan includes a multi-phase transformation. Future improvements will introduce a dedicated teen area, a renovated youth space, an outdoor program and reading area, and a building expansion to accommodate the library’s growing needs. Phase 2 is set for completion in spring 2024, with Phase 3 beginning in fall 2024.
Through careful planning and a vision for long-term growth, MCD Architects has helped position the Romulus Public Library as a dynamic community hub, ready to serve future generations.
